Locating Marine Groundwater Seeps
Five acres of a salt-water harbor in British Columbia near a decommissioned oil processing site were monitored for groundwater seeps. Three 2,000-meter cables were installed, spanning 300 meters of shoreline and extending 75 meters into the harbor. The DTS investigation identified a number of key locations for further testing. Four-meter tidal fluctuations created installation challenges, but the cyclical pressure dynamics associated with each tide cycle highlighted possible seeps.
